Temuan : Mass cooking, Mass Makan!
Thanks for waking me up, brader!
"Oh, ayam kampung ni kita tak makan! Beli saja dari luar!"
Tok Batin make it clear that they don't consume those chicken that we saw running around the village, normally the meat was brought in.
Maybe they need it as biological clock, or for the eggs, or they know the rate of consuming those chicken should be much faster that the chicken reproduce themself! Still people chopping down timber tree like no body's business, perhaps they don't understand the chicken-theory!
Clinton rice cooker, take all you can eat!
Steam em'!
Anyway our agenda moves on to yet another mass cooking session! This time we will prepare food for some 80 peoples, including the villagers. Normally 1kg of rice = 10 heads, maybe you need plenty of time to do it with normal rice cooker at home. And usually, time, is what you don't have during a disaster - - the faster the better! People are starving to death, huh?
The solution, Clinton cooker. Good enough to prepare rice for 250++heads within an hour. Don't ask me what happend when some 20,000 refugee dislocated and need some rice, i can only recommend second disaster management course with RCS again, haha!
If you don't like the steamed rice, fine! Try lemang rice!
Rice + banana leaves + pandan leaves + water in bamboo tube
Bakar and wait till the water dried out...
Smell and certainly taste good, trust me on that!
Mean while, some others are working on much different jobs, like the temuan ladies team up with our volunteers (ladies, also:p) to clean up the red tilapia fishes. Ikan bakar, what else! :)
Ann:"At least someone appreciate our hard work, hehe!"
Not forgetting our our-sourcing team, hunt for fire woods!
Me? I'm the man behind, haha! Tok Batin drag me to the back of the house (maybe he notice me doin' nothin', other than taking photos??? Hehe!!!), teach me some bamboo-choppin' skills! Hey, i'm holding THE MAN's parang knife, not bad, haha!
Tok Batin demonstrate, i'm little Kadil and i learning :)
The little boy, Kadil, sit quietly besides me while i am working on those bamboo sticks. Actually that's when i get to know his name, age of three, etc. He can't really speak that well, i mean i can't speak temuan language at all, so it's a special moment for both of us, i guess? Understanding without much talking.
Good thing is the temuan language is quite close to Malays, so all of us (especially adults) can understand each other pretty well. I don't worry for the kids, though. Second/third++ language can also come afterwards, no problem!
Tauke Amilin hard at work. Notice the bamboo i chopped! :p
The best moment, of course, is when the food is being served!
Jom makan!
Itadakimasu! :)
