Temuan

Dr. Jeya talks tall, Ghani with kids, while Tok Batin looks on

It took me about 1.5 hours in Max's car to reach the Temuan village in Sungai Jang, Kuala Kubu Bharu.

Stand right next to Tok Batin, or the learders for the aborigine, i thought i could get smarter and wiser with every second passed...Mental leader, tradition advisor plus many other role to all 50++ villagers, or about 12 family - - not wonder they gave them the name Tok!

Max, hard at works!

Just before i can become "wiser", i need to fill up my empty stomach! One of our first task upon arriving at the aborigine village is to set up our kitchen, be prepare for mass cooking - - part of our Disaster Management Course, an interesting programme make possible by Red Crescent Malaysia(RCM) and Yayasan Salam Malaysia(YSM).

Behind this bamboo bar, it's our semi-open kitchen

Mass cooking, because you need to cook for more than your family member. As Dr. Jeya put it:"Imagine a fire rage in some squatters, where almost 300 peoples is homeless, without proper food and water supply..." It surely need more than an average mother to handle this!!!

Looks easy, not until you do it!

While some of us busy in the kitchen, few of us take some time-out to venture around...It's been a year since i last came here, i still can remember the river surrounding the village - - most important and typical location of any village.

Just when i'm about to venture there, Ann walks back with the kids! She did mix well with the kids, feels like home, huh? :)

Happy Ann, leaving the cold refreshing river!

It's nice to meet Nina again, here, ever since we bye-bye after the tsunami operation up north. She drove all the way from Ipoh, but never really imformed me, so it's a pleasent surprise!

Nina with the kids

We couldn't complaint much when we were told about the one-toilet-one-bathroom condition, 30++ of us will just have to sort things out!

Getting bath in the river, in the dark

3 of us even venture 300 meters to take our bath by the river! Maybe Dr. Jeya was right, if someone suddenly "vanish", second guy can stay "panic", while i will run for my life, hehe!!!

En. Ghani shared his experience

As we all settle down after a nice meal, En. Ghani (YSM) enlighten us with some of the important aspects of Disaster Management - - what, why, who, when, where and how. Dr. Jeya round it up sharing his own real case disaster management in Malaysia, through out his service with RCM.

One thing, were quite true to me: WE, on site professinals, volunteers, etc. must LAST. If you can't save yourself, save your time from rolling into the ground zero!

While we have our movie-time, i enjoyed watching those kids having their good time, i think they are the real future. YSM did a good job locating a teacher in this village: They need to know more about the outside world, yet, their own language and culture will always be the first thing to learn since birth!

Guess tomorrow, i will have a good time with those kids!
