Well, I read that as best I could using online translation (which made it pretty mystical, let me tell you!).

Those are some serious firecrackers! I imagine they made a pretty large noise! If I understood your post correctly, are they technically illegal but tolerated?

That second picture is really beautiful.

Online translation for the whole story? Interesting, hehe...I didn't try those firecrackers for some time now, but yes, it sounds much, much powerful than what we used to have in Malaysia. Illegal but tolerated - as you may guessed, like the case of pirated CDs/DVDs...what can I say? :p

I like that one too - that's my favourite corner of the old house my grandfather lived before he left for 南洋(Nanyang - Southern Sea or at that time, Malay Archipelago) by the age of 12? It's good that Chinese usually don't sweep their floor during Chinese New Year!

Firecrackers used to be part of celebrating Chinese New Year but now, they are a thing of the past. Sad, in a way, that tradtions are not what they used to be. I enjoy the sound of firecrackers, but from a distance.

Low, the second picture is a delight. Thanks for the memories.

I suddenly realize that first and second picture define the village's radius of 20++ households. It intersecs with village of other surname but we speak similar language.

Back to the firecrackers - like many other tradition that dilutes in the wave of modernization - I will enjoy it while I still can, and allowed to (another reason to travel, haha) :)

Dina! Yeah this is probably the most interesting shot during my china's trip - my uncle lay down the fire crackers on the ground, just before hanging it onto some wires tied between coconut trees and off we go - bang bang bang...

And when it happends in our front yard...I got me second favourite shot :)
