^^^ ^^ Gunung ^^ ^ Nuang ^ ^^^
Nuang, standing 4,899 feet a.s.l at Pangsung, Ulu Langat, Selangor.
Getting here at the starting point of on-foot, takes about An hour drive from KL. Walk, because cars are not allowed to go in further.
It was a good start, though. Walking through those pine trees, good chillin' weather. Like angle's mountain welcoming us! I get even more excited when i saw one of these wild ginger below, so beautiful! I can hardly notice them in FRIM, or any other mountain trips around.
I've gather some information, also - - warnings before i finally step on Nuang's soils. It's day trip, that means we need to hike about 10 - 12 hours, to the peak and back. Many thanks to Xiao Jin's invitation. And thanks to her mostly female colleagues, i think Nuang isn't that difficult after all, huh?
The treks starts with a long walk along x-logging trails, which takes about an hours to reach Lolo camp, waterfall area which people camps and relax. A bit up and down hills, some small "pond" with yellowish water, nothing much scary, really.
You can assume these bamboos that block our ways is the toughest conditions.
There were a least 5 - 8 camps at the Lolo's, much of campers still in their dreamlands, though. While waiting for the other to arrive, i take my time wandering around, and i caught this little insect in action!
After a light meals (if you consider energy bar meals) we start hiking again. Some of us would already called it a day, but some of us, aims for the peak! That's why we are here, i think :p
Water, falls from nowhere to somewhere.
Not far ahead, we need to actually cross a small dam, flooded with water. The fun has finally begun! People start talking their shoes off, followed by socks. Me? Just walk pass with my Teva's and my socks. I wish to create the toughest possible for myself, and for Teva's. It cost me 70 Singapore dollars, i wanted to know how far it can goes!
After the dam, the river. Part of the reasons that i wear short pants is, i wish to be ready for this. Water is at knee hight, cool and refreshing!
Now further hikes will teach you a lesson, rather a small piece of advise we usually don't even notice: suitable trekking shoes. I'm not a shoe maker, but this shoe below certainly not suitable for hilly mud ground.
I would say the next hour of trekking to reach Pacat camp was fun because the landscapes changes along the way. Some occasional big timber trees, like this one beside Xian Jin and Fion, are just as good.
Pacat camp a.k.a. basecamp, is where we made final preparation to the peak. Here on, is where i slowly realize i've under-estimate Nuang. As i leaves Pacat camp, these spiky climbers below gives me early warning, huh!
Basically from here on, we are more or less on our own. We hike in our own pace, following the ever ending trails. Here you can expect some "direction sign" in forms of triangular papers - - dropped by some experience hikers/guides at some confusing junctions.
And when i rest, my bag rest, my camera don't. Proof? This picture below!
Hike alone also means that you can do what you like, when you like. No teamate will allow my the snap this yet-another-unknown insect, close-up, take times, too!
Mushrooms, anyone?
