Once in the life time

I have been away for sometime, or as always? But this time it is for some good reasons, extraordinary occasions. My sis’s wedding!

Like most people, I attend numerous wedding occasions, when I am are still a kid, of my uncles’, neighbors’, teachers’, friends’, colleagues’, flat mates’…and finally of my own sisters’. Each time, I played different role even if it is only slightest variance. Sometime, I make phone calls, drive a car, serving guests, be observers, be ‘brothers’ (兄弟) or even ‘sisters’ (姐妹) and many more. I thought I’ve seen it all, that I’ll know what to do if it finally hits me. But to be honest I do not know how to react when sis told me her big day is on May First (五一), months ahead. What should I do? Or even, where to begin with?

Anyway, I am flooded with relief when sis just gave me one main task: Snap photos. Actually she said ‘photographer’, which sounds a little too heavy on my shoulders. “I want faces, faces!” Well, if I just snap photos that I wanted to, god knows what will I shoot? It is good that she had seen some of my earlier ‘works’, that she would drop me a warning before hand.

As expected, there were dozen of other cameras that day, giving me some ‘space’ and ‘time’ to look at things differently. The new couples have not seen my work just yet, since they are still in some island. But here are few that I consider main component of a Chinese wedding.

Cooking. More than what you cook, how it taste like, it’s really about who is doing it. I wish both women could cook for my own wedding. That says it all.

You need Heaven, Earth, People and Harmonies of all (天地人和). It was a hot day, rains at night, house was crowded with people and stuff. Dealt with it, keep it all together anyway.

As when you have guests, you’ll need to serve. Get it done nicely, correctly. When Chinese says ‘any number will do’, that’s not really for special occasions.

You may drive any car, any class, at any price. Not special or appropriate unless you do just that – or something else, it’s your freedom, creativity.

You need a HE.

While SHE is waiting.

It is good that someone could sing for you, even if you never met them before. It’s like you prayed for Mother Nature even if you don’t know what it really represents.

缘 – fate, or something makes you missed an important flight but found another life. You search and circle around and found one, at last.

Once in the life time, because this is what we believe, what we try to keep for as long as we could.

*sigh* I just love the way you write, lol. Maybe is because it's late and you're sleepy? HaHaHa. Just kidding.

What a great ocassion, it must've been a really important day for your family but also a sad one for letting her go. Though i'm sure you must be pretty happy cause you won't get fined anymore, well, at least not by her, lol.

Hmmm, so what is it what those women are cooking? Looks good! I'm feeling hungry all of a sudden and lunch isn't ready yet ;P

Hope to see you around soon =( been wanting to email you but i'm still waiting for something ;)hopefully i'll do it this weekend.

'warm' hugs
Caroliiiiina

p.s. That's a beautiful dress your sis is wearing. She looks pretty on it.

Hola!

Yeah I was sleepy, maybe you are right, hehe....

But it is not letting her go totally, she just started her own family and we could have few, right? :) She still stays with me till next year so I will pay my fine for this weekend (becuase I am away, again!) LOL

Mum and grandma was cooking sour and spicy mixture of all sorts of vege like cucumber, pineapple, carrot, chillies etc. We called it acat -- I'm not sure about the spelling but that's how it sounds like, haha!

By the way all three of them are my sisters, but I guess you know whos bride :p

Of course I will see you soon, so cheers! :)))

Cool hugs for me, warm hugs for you lol

Alright then maybe you should write more when you're sleepy, lol.

So, is your sister still gonna live with you? and her husband too? Hmmm, i thought they were moving away, start on their own, but i guess is ok, many couples do that here too, though i don't think i could. Once i'm married i'm definitively gone *lol*

Sorry but...eeeewwwww. Pineapple with carrots? Yuck! That's not my fave dish and that's for sure, haha. I hate vegies!

You know, you're keeping me on a record for getting early at work this week, haha. Nice for a change, huh? i kinda miss you though =)

I think i'll grab those 'cool' hugs cause is getting a bit hot here again =/ but don't worry, i'll leave some for you...(((cool hugs)))

Lots of 'besos' for you

lrong...
Yeah, inviting thingy -- the host face the same dilemma. You want to out people in that kinda position, really. So sometime it's just for close friends :)

puteri...
Teaser? I don't usually do that, hehe. Well see how later :) Ah both of them were there, no? :p

yd...
Thank you! Sorry that I've been busy -- I am looking for more blog materials, maybe? Hehehe...

Haha, you still remember Wira, thousand layer cake..nobody brain wash you in UK? LOL Typical as for now, more and more young couples don't do things like waiting game anymore.

Well you bet, I have more wedding ceremonies coming. I (hence, my friends) am at THAT age, if you understand :p Those of other races is pretty hard to come by. Maybe I need more time:)

Another bachelor bites the dust. Oh. Since the bride is your sister, I shouldn't say that. ;^)

I wish them well on their journey through life together. Your sis was smart to put you in charge of the camera.

I'm looking forward to more pics.

Nice you see a post from you again my friend.

Well, it's more like the current condition, not tradition :p

You take care too...semi-cool hugs for you?? :)))

Pandabonium...
Yeah, happily bite it, haha!!! Thank you for those wishes! I did took some nice photos, also expose some of the weakness of my camera -- poor flash power and as expected, quicker start up time could have earned me more time-defining shots!

I am glad to write some post again, just couldn't spend time these days. Lotsa happening at your blog, will be there soon :P

robin...
I just been to your blog and those cats chased me out! Hehe! Thanks for the wishes!

happy...
Thanks my friend, it's still kinda having a brother, which is nice :)

How ironic that you posted this not long after FH2o posted his tirade complaining about...well...the same things that Lrong mentioned in his comment!

It's good to see you back, and best wishes to your sister and her new hubby!

Yeah its just the season, I guess :p

One thing I like about hosting and guiding my guests (especially foreign) is: They tend to see everything differently, even of those we consider ordinary and very, very usual or normal.

Maybe that is how life, should be :)

Hi Low,

Congratulations to your sister. You should put her beautiful wedding photos too, not just the tedious preparations.

Low, I would like to thank you for joining our Green Walk the other day. I haven't actually got the chance to see you after the event because I had to escort the VIP back. Thank you very much and hope to see you again in any one of our event. May be you could join our OKU Camp (as volunteer or participant?)

Thank you, my friend :) Well, preparation are part of the wedding, no? :p

You don't have to thank me for the Green Walk, I had great time with some 300 school kids :p We can always sit down for a cup of teh tarik so please make those VIP happy first, haha...

Kumar spoke with me regarding the same thing, so you will see me there :)

There are few questions that I would like to ask you:

1) does your family stays somewhere in Perak? (based from the car plate number) which part of perak?

2) how many sisters do you have in your family?

3) what are the food does the Chinese must eat during the wedding?

4) what happen to the bride and the bridegroom?

5) do you get angpow?

thank you low. sorry asking too many questions.

Dear doc...no need to apoligize for that, it's interesting that you ask sooo many questions :p Well, here we go...

1) does your family stays somewhere in Perak? (based from the car plate number) which part of perak?
Padang Rengas, a small town located in between Kuala Kangsar and Taiping :)

2) how many sisters do you have in your family?
Three. Too much, eh? :p

3) what are the food does the Chinese must eat during the wedding?
Sis ate winter solstice dumpling (汤圆) night before her wedding, fed by my father -- that is the only MUST if you still stick to traditions. Other than that usually we will have steamed chicken with 7 other dishes like roasted pork, vegetable etc. make it all 8 :p

4) what happen to the bride and the bridegroom?
Happily married ever after? :)

5) do you get angpow?
You really get the idea now, don't you? :p I have to open the door (car), and for the first time I will address HIM as my brother-in-law. One angpow.

In the house, while waiting for the bride, I served him couple of boiled eggs. Another angpow.

Finally both couple will start giving angpow for the first time in their life (usually married couples gave angpow durign chinese new year), I will get another angpow :)

Three angpow -- a good number for chinese!
